- Reviewed in the United States on February 27, 2014Church communicators have many responsibilities: church websites, bulletins, video, graphic design and social media -- just to name a few. Those of us who work in the industry must `wear many hats' and be jacks-of-all-trades.
This fact can sometimes make getting a job as a church communications professional a challenge. Thankfully, `Landing a Job' is here to help. It offers a great deal of practical advice on how to approach every step of the job search.
Best of all, it's written by people who already have established careers in the profession. Church communications is relatively unknown and it's hard to know what to expect when trying to break into the job market. However, many of these tips are universally applicable and can be used to find a job in any field.
`Landing a Job' explains exactly who church communicators are and what it takes to become one. The book is a short, easy read, but that doesn't undercut the value of its knowledge. This is undoubtedly the definitive work on careers in church communications.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 3, 2014If you are considering a new (or second or third) career in church communications, this is a great resource. It gives you tips on everything from finding a new job and networking to how to get off on the the right foot during your first few weeks on the job. Some of the advice is very practical (what to ask to help you define the scope of your job, how to create a portfolio) and some of it is more, well, touchy-feely, but just as important.
It can be a shock when you land your first church job and discover it isn't all kumbya moments. Your co-corkers - clergy and laity - a real people with all the flaws of a regular workplace. This book advises people looking for a church communications job to remember that and prepare their hearts. God's grace is at work in the church office -- and it's good thing. We all need it!
- Reviewed in the United States on March 7, 2014This book is a collection of individual experiences, thoughts and ideas written from honest and authentic individuals who work as Church Communication Ministers. A quote from the book, "When it comes down to it, church communications isn't about the technology, methods or design. It is about relationships," drives home the point that church communication provides a unique opportunity to use your gifts, talents and education in a manner that specifically builds community, opens opportunities to bring people to a life of faith, share hope and express love. I believe "Getting Started in Church Communication, Landing a Job" explains the process of getting started, what to expect and how to succeed in this fabulous ministry! Read the book! You will be glad you did!
